Cruise Accident in San Francisco

As someone deeply involved in tech, this recent event gave me serious pause. Imagine this—a pedestrian is hit by not one, but two cars at the intersection of Market and Fifth streets. The kicker? One of them was a driverless car from Cruise.

The incident took place on a regular Monday night, just as the traffic light turned green. The first car, which was human-driven, hit the woman and sped off. This collision flung her into the lane of the Cruise autonomous vehicle, which couldn’t stop in time and ended up running over her. It’s horrifying enough to be hit by one car, but to be subsequently run over by a machine? That’s a double nightmare.

Cruise says their vehicle did what it could to minimize the impact.
