Mint.com to be sunsetted
I'm genuinely annoyed that Intuit is killing Mint. Since 2006, it's been my go-to for personal finance management - free budgeting tools that actually worked. Now they're forcing everyone to Credit Karma, which doesn't have the same features and frankly feels like a downgrade.
What bothers me most is the revenue model shift. Mint was clean and focused on budgeting. Credit Karma makes money through ads and financial product recommendations. Can I really trust their advice when they're getting paid to push certain products? That's a huge conflict of interest.
The communication around this has been terrible. They gave us a one-month grace period to download our data, but I found out through tech news, not from Intuit. If you're reading this and still using Mint, download your transaction history now. Once you transfer to Credit Karma, there's no going back.
Oh, and not all banks are compatible with Credit Karma, so some users might lose access to their accounts entirely. Great planning, Intuit.
On the bright side, maybe they'll sell the mint.com domain to MintMobile. At least that would be amusing.
