EVGA said it would stop making Nvidia graphics cards in 2022. The Verge reported EVGA’s complaints about pricing and access to information from its GPU supplier.
EVGA had built a recognizable product around chips it did not control. If the supplier set chip costs late and sold competing cards itself, EVGA had little room to plan margins or product positioning. I don’t know whether every complaint was fair, but the dependency was real. Quitting your main product is a severe way to tell a supplier the partnership no longer works.
