Learning to make salsa and mole in Oaxaca gave me another way to appreciate the food I had been ordering. Mole became a favorite on the trip.

I visited Uxmal and spent time with Mexico’s history in museums. Mexico City’s National Museum of Anthropology and Templo Mayor Museum gave me places to follow what I was learning about Aztec, Mixtec, and Maya history.

The practical discovery was how much I could do with Mexico City’s public transport. Daily trips also gave me chances to practice basic Spanish food vocabulary instead of only studying it.

I found lucha libre along the way too. Cooking, museums, transport, and wrestling gave the week more to remember than another list of places I had checked off.
