The week of October 18, 2021 put Netflix, Tesla, and Intel on my earnings watchlist. A calendar of every company reporting that week wasn’t useful after the week ended. Three questions were worth keeping.

Netflix needed to show whether subscriber growth came from more than one hit. Tesla needed to show delivery growth without letting factory ramps overwhelm margins. Intel needed to show a product and spending plan that could answer AMD’s momentum.

Those were different businesses, but the same reading rule applied: I wanted operating evidence behind a headline beat. The earnings date itself was the least interesting part.
